Dr. Louis Wiest, Jr. VMD

Dr. Louis Wiest, Jr. grew up in Maryland and attended the University of Maryland where he earned a B.S. and M.S. degree while working for the US Department of Agriculture at the National Parasitological Institute in Beltsville, Maryland. He attained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After veterinary school he entered the United States Air Force where he was assigned to Langley Air Force Base as Base Veterinarian. 

Dr. Wiest practiced companion animal medicine in Virginia, New Jersey, and Maryland before founding the Patuxent Valley Animal Hospital in Howard County. He is a member of several professional organizations (e.g. Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Howard County Veterinary Medical Association, American Heartworm Society, Greater Baltimore Veterinary Medical Association, Helminthological Society of Washington, American Association of Avian Veterinarians, American Association for Laboratory Animal Science). He has published many scientific papers.


Dr. Wiest started the Patuxent Valley Animal Hospital in Columbia, MD in 1980 before moving to the present location. He also started Just for Pets, a retail pet store the specializes just with Pet Birds. He was on the Animal Matters Hearing Board of Howard County, was the Chairman of Advisory Board of PETS on Wheels, participated in the Eden Alternative Program for Seniors at Vantage House Senior Center in Columbia, attends Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Highland, is a member of the National Capital Dahlia Society and Potomac Valley Camellia Society.


Besides growing Dahlia's and Camellia's, Dr. Wiest is an avid golfer and bowler. He has three children, four grandchildren, and three dogs.

Finn 

Finn is our staff assistant/greeter dog, he is a relatively new addition to our staff and became part of the crew Oct. 2020. He is a sweet soul who loves head scratches and treats. Finn enjoys standing on his hind legs and doing "Spins" Come meet our "greeter-in-training" senior rescue dog Finn.

Joanna B.

                   Veterinary Technician 
Joanna has 2 Shetland Sheepdogs "Freddy" and "Jingle". Occasionally Freddy will come to hang out at the office to meet and greet with his friends. Joanna's hobbies are almost all dog related and include agility, obedience, and pet photography.

Kaitlyn is our resident "rabbit mom" she loves her rabbit Nemo and will occasionally bring him to the hospital so that he can interact with his "fans". Every once in a while you will see him hopping around our front desk area!
